  1. Yes, it will be cheaper if you close all the room doors.  If the doors are left open, the heat rises, downstairs cools off and the boiler has to work harder to keep the downstairs radiators hot.

  2. Yes definatly as heat rises, so upstairs will get warm anyway.

  3. The boiler is not producing heat in the other part, so costs should reduce. Interesting someone mentioned turning the lights off, the majority of people use the traditional fillament light bulbs, I prefer to use the modern equivalent. These are far more economical and are also an 'A' rating in energy efficiency.

Modern equivalent (uses less energy) :

You can even buy more funkier designs, such as the spiral version : http://www.advancegreen.ca/images/produc...

  4. yes it is! because when you turn the stats off on the radiators it cuts your boiler down to how much gas it uses to your radiators. If not using the rooms then turn the stats off

  5. alot cheaper yes. also keep the lights off.

  6. I usually leave mine off unless I'm up there because I find that just having the downstairs heating on heats upstairs a bit anyway.  Heat rises anyway.  I would leave it off until you need it.

  7. Cheaper to turn it off.  Heat rises, so insulate your door and accesses to the upstairs and turn everything off.  During extreme cold turn it on enough to keep pipes from busting as that will ruin your heating system and your floors.

  8. if your bedrooms are cooler your heat will rush upstairs anyway

heat everywhere to an ambient temp, then there are no cold spots

  9. yes

  10. Only if your upstairs heating is set too high. In other words, turn it down upstairs. You need a lower temperature for comfortable sleep anyway.

  11. you should turn the upstairs heatin off or on because heat weighs less than cold so if you tun the downstairs heat on the heat will rise up
