Question:

Is it common for kids to want someone in the room changing with them? and holding them until the fall asleep?

im having this problem with my 7 yr old bro and sis, they turn eight soon and they like me in the room while there changing and i never look but my bro sometimes needs help getting pants on or buttoning his shirt and my sis just likes me in there for copany i guess so is that ok??? and they both like to be held untill the fall asleep at night are either of these ok???

  1. Of  course it is ok. Your brother and sister are having insecurities and it is great for you to be there for them. It sounds like your more of a parent to them than your parents are. You really love you little brother and sister don't you.


  2. I have no idea. It seems harmless. Sometimes little kids just want to be near someone older. I would try to break them from that though. It could get awkward as they get older. Good luck!!

  3. Sometimes, as you described, kids need some help with buttoning and such and feel more comfortable having someone right there to help if needed.  I don't think it's weird.  And I find it refreshing to hear about a 16 year old who is willing to help with younger siblings.

    As for the sleeping situation, it may be that your brother and sister just need to feel secure when they go to bed.  Instead of holding them, try sitting on the bed next to them and rubbing their backs to help them relax and drift off to sleep.
