just wondering, the cage will be cleaned daily(papers) and will be washed(everything taken out) around every 2 weeks and they will not be exposed to other birds (parrotlets cage will be on one side of the room while canaries on the other) also canaries dont have lice/mites. Also what causes lice and mites and are those sprays/products that you buy from stores, lice and mite protecters effective?

  1. Any birds kept outside has a potential of catching lice/mites. I've never had this problem before, sprays sold at pet stores can be effective.

  2. Mites are most commonly brought in from the outside if the birds spend time out there. They can be brought into the house on branches of bushes and trees and houseplants that are brought in from the outside.  If their cages are not kept clean, they will attract mites and bacteria.  Many of the spray products work very well.  Just be sure not to spray in the face of your bird.  Mites are more commonly found in finches and canaries. They can be transmitted from bird to bird, and in the drinking water or food.  They can live in trachea, air sac, lungs and the body cavity. Please read my profile
