Is it common sense that like humans, baby primates are very attached to and NEED their mothers? ?

If they are taken away from their mothers, they are deeply traumatised by it for a very long time.

I just had someone tell me that pet monkeys are just like pet dogs......that people take dogs away from their mothers, so how are monkeys different.

Or is that person right in saying that if you take a dog away from a parent, a monkey is fine to take away as well.

  1. I agree. I saw a special on primates that were severely, psychologically disturbed in an experiment when they were taken from their mothers too early, compared to primates who stayed with their mothers.

Even pigs were traumatized when taken from their moms too early. I am definitely against monkeys being owned as pets though, they are wild animals and as such, belong in the WILD!

All animals belong with their mama's as babies/infants, no human has the right to interefer with that, just so that they can domesticate it, or make it their "pet" or whatever.

  2. most babies need their mothers just like any other animal and obviously they cant live on their own

  3. Many monkeys (especially "higher" monkeys) have extended childhoods and strong bonds with their mothers.  Removing them is highly traumatic and can cause lifelong issues.  Monkeys should not be pets!!! Leave wild animals wild!
