I am 22 years old and have been taking the Ortho Tri Cyclen-Lo birth control pill for 2-3 months and I have been pretty good at taking the pill on time. Now I have been spotting for a little over a week and its starting to scare me. Its been a very light spotting but I still don't know what this could be. I have been taking this kind of birth control before and I have never gotten this. So I am a little worried. Can somebody tell me what this is and if it is common?

  1. I used to get this a lot and my Doc used to change the brand until the hormone levels were just right for me. Our bodies keep changing so one pill can successfully do its job for months (sometime years as in my case) and then all of a sudden it isn't the right one anymore.

Hope you get it sorted soon. Best wishes. UK

  2. It might be nothing to worry about. Do you have the side effects and precautions information that should accompany the medication? If yes, read through it to see if spotting is typical or something about which to be concerned.

I've just done a quick Google search and spotting seems to come up often as a side effect for this particular medication. you can view it here:

In any case, give your gynecologist a call in the morning so that you can be sure.

  3. It's pretty common to spot while on BC, especially within the first few months. See a doctor if you're worried.
