I know someone who might want to go to college. Is this common when you have been held back a year? Is it really difficult? What's it like?

  1. Community college sounds like the solution on this one. Community colleges typically offer education of college level topics but on a smaller scale. What I mean by this is that the class sizes are smaller and more intimate which gives the average student the opportunity to interact with the Professor. They also usually are available after class and via email. Now that is not to say that Universities and State college professors are untouchable or unable to be contacted but the trend is that it is much more difficult to get the type of interaction with a professor that you can get from a community college

    Why is this important or even worth mentioning? Well someone who has seemingly had a hard time grasping concepts offered in High School would most likely have a very difficult time grasping a college level concept in its entirety without being able to ask questions and get help from a professor.

    In short, no it's not impossible to get into a College or University after being held back, just difficult. Yes people can do it. Community college might help however ease the individual into the experience of college life and college education.
