Lately, I've been noticing my 55 year old Mom mispronouncing words, she never mispronounced before. While talking, she occasionally mispronounces one or two words in a sentence. It's not a everyday thing, but the frequency has increased. Is this common? Should I be worried? Should I tell her to see a neurologist?

  1. Have her see her doctor.  Several things can cause this. Menopause, hypothyroid, stress, there can be any number of things.  She should have a complete checkup with her doctor and share her symptoms with him/her.

  2. Anything is possible. A visit to the neuroligist is not a bad thing anyway. Better safe than sorry. My mom who was older then your mom had the same symptoms and I took her in and thank God everything was ok.

  3. In all honesty, it is a symptom of alot of different things from Alzheimers to Schizophrenia.  My mom is about the same age and she is definitely getting bad with names (calling me by my nephew's name...calling my nephew by the cat's name, etc)....it is actually pretty funny and Im not worried about it, but it is something to keep an eye on and to do something about if you have any concerns.
