I just stared taking the birth control pill 10 days ago and have had light spotting for the past two days. Is this normal? I also had very irregular pieriods and part of the reason I was put on the pill was to try and regulate them.

  1. yes if it lasts more than the first 3 months call the doctor! It's totally normal!

  2. Yes.  For the first year or so, your body will be regulating itself to the cycle of the pill.  It does take a long time, but eventually, your period will be like clockwork.  The pill will also eventually lighten and shorten your period, which is an added bonus.

  3. Perfectly normal. Don't worry.

  4. yes it's very common when just starting birth control, it's called breakthrough bleeding and can come and go for up to a few months while your body adjusts to being on the pill.

  5. Thats perfectly normal for the first month or two while your body is getting used to all the hormone changes. I have been on birth control for about 8 yrs and even now that I'm off it my periods are still very regular and I originally got on it to regulate mine also.

  6. i think it is pretty normal.  If i can remember correctly when i was on birth control pills (years and years ago) my period was all messed up at first, and i think i even thought i was pregnant...... lol but wasn't.  everything will get more normal in a few months.  Also FYI if you get off the pills, you may even have some irregular periods and spotting too.  It messes with your hormones, so just know that.  But of course if you have any major concerns see your doctor.

  7. It's kind of embarrassing that I know this, being a guy, but I have experience with my gf. Yes this is normal, and it will eventually go away. However...after a while, say 2-3 years, it may start up again. At that point you'll want to switch prescriptions. I think your body becomes too accustomed to the BC and you need to switch it up.

  8. it sure is. it takes a couple months to get your period regular. soon it will be like clockwork as long as you take the pills every day. I reccomend taking them at the same time each day simply so it becomes a habit... i actually set my cell phone alarm to remind me each day. you will also notice your periods will be lighter with the pill (sometimes its hardly a period at all) and instead of the gruelling 5-7 days of a period you'll only have it 3-4 days. sometimes mine only last 2 days! its great!

  9. yeah it is

  10. Yes, this is very normal for a lot of girls, especially if you have irregularity to begin with. This is just your body way of adjusting to the homrones in the birth control and it should straighten itself out within a month or two. If you start to have serious cramps or pain, notice any unusual discharge or heavy or clotted blood flow when you aren't expecting your period or if your period lasts for too long, check with your gyno to make sure you don't need to switch BC. Good luck!

  11. Yes, it is normal. You are experiencing the stage scientists call "breakthrough bleeding". Studies have shown differences in breakthrough bleeding rates in the first 3 months of women starting birth control pills ranging from 10%-55%. The rates are so high that routine advice upon starting the pills is to ignore the breakthrough bleeding for the first 3 months of use; then if it persists let the doctor know.

  12. yes.  it's very common.  it will get back to normal in a few months or less.

  13. Yes, it's normal, for probably about the first three months or so. Just make sure that you always take your pill at (or at least around) the same time every day. Also, FYI..with some pills, if you forget to take it at the same time and are late taking it, you'll wind up spotting.

It'll get better though, you just have to be patient.

  14. its normal usually for the first three months.
