Is it common to see people shopping barefoot in Hawaii?

my friend just came from over there and thats the thing that shocked her the most. i couldnt believe this since hawaii is a us state. how often do you see that over there?

you see it quite a bit, but i would not say that it is a common occurrance.

It's more common in the smaller towns and away from the tourist locations. By common, I think 3% of adults you see will be barefoot (for kids it's higher). Most people (90%) are in sandals or flip flops. The remainder are in sneakers and socks. Certainly not common, but a higher percentage than you would see in Wisconsin or something.
