Is it necessary to have insurance if one owns a mobility scooter, Is it compulsary or just advisable to have it?

  1. No, but with the appalling way these things are driven, it d**n well should be!


  2. Hi just been reding up on this question for my dad. At this moment is not compulsory to have 3rd party insurance for a mobility scooter. I think however it would be very advisable to have such an insurance in case the driver has an accident caused by them, for example on a crowded pavement. Its worth a check with the house insurance to see if it covers this.

    Very advisable, but not on the books as compulsory

    I have no damage collision insurance on my cycle, but I saw a bloke around the local supermarket that perhaps had too many beers, and put dents in about about three cars before he retired unhurt towards home.

    Who is going to pay for that ?

    Excess on the compulsory car insurance by the car owner no doubt.

    I am all for mobility scooters, when needful, but what about some elderly people I have seen using them for pure fun, and then running around a supermarket without it, in a rush on their feet ?

    "Oh, sorry" is a lame excuse when these things bump into other things or people.
