Is it considered an abomination for a Muslim to turn Christian or for a Christian to become a Muslim?

I just wondered about inter faith marriages or relationships where one party takes on the religion of the other.

Does your religion consider such an act to be a sin of extreme nature and is the person that converted going to h**l according to your beliefs

Of course, all religions consider conversion to a different religion a sin. However, Muslims take it to the next level and punish apostacy by death.

People who supposedly change their faith to get married lack integrity and commitment regardless of their faith, and if they're doing it for love, their judgement is impaired by emotion and isn't valid.  Most of the time i think they just do it for appearance's sake.  I have a number of former friends who have done this and have lost all respect for them when they've abandoned their beliefs.  I think it's contemptible and despicable.
