Question:

Is it considered emotional abuse if parents hide from the real problem?

Like parents who either would ignore a child's mental illness or don't know how to deal with it, so they would try to hide from it, or never say anything, no sorry, just listening to your problems, no actions. Into one ear out the other.

Would that child have the right to be mad at the parents? Would he/she grow older emotionally abused?

  1. I think so. Parents who do not accept and effectively seek help for a problem are abusive.

  2. There is a fine line between emotional abouse and neglect. In this scenario, i would say it's more of a neglect situation.  A child in this situation would possibly be angry at his/her parents for ignoring the problem, but i don't think it would be considered abuse.

  3. If the child is under 18 it is actually considered medical neglect. A parent is responsible for a child's medical and mental needs until a child is 18. Under 18 can and should be reported to child protective services. Some do not take mental issues as serious as medical issues and they should since both can be life threatening and life damaging.

  4. I think that as long as you (if you're talking about yourself) see the problem and talk to someone else about it, then you'll grow up just fine. My parents have been in denial for years and years about my sibling having a drug, stealing, lying and sleazing off of them at age 40 problem. He's messed up and they should have recognized it when he was a kid but they didn't. He doesn't see his problems so in his mind, he's great! Everyone else knows better but I see all of their mistakes and have learned from that and now raise my kids very differently. If it's you, just talk to a friend, school counselor or even another relative. Don't keep it inside. If your parents won't listen, someone else will.
