Is it considered weird to get cosmetic lenses from your doctor without strength?

Question

To make it clear I don't have any eye problems and don't need a particular strength.

I wanted to get some honeyish gold contacts for my Halloween costume. I'd probably use them for other things too, depending how long they would last.

I did some research and I know if I want colored contacts, I MUST get them from from my optometrist. I talked to my mom about it, and she was totally against it. She says that it would be wasting their time to just want to go in for "dress up."

Is it really that uncommon? I wouldn't think it would be so bad if it's a cosmetic thing. Would it be weird? I dunno, has anyone else gotten some from their doctor before for the heck of it?

No, you don't have to have vision problems to get colored contacts. The only way you can get contacts is through an eye doctor. Now, I do have vision problems, and I only need a contact in one eye because my other eye is a lazy eye and you can't do anything for it. So I got colored contacts one time, and I was down to my last pair. I lost one of them and so I had to walk around with one blue eye and one brown eye for a while lol, it was hilarious.

I don't think it's weird at all!  I need contacts now, but when I was younger I had violet-purple ones just for fun.  I loved them!  I have friends who have DOZENS of pairs of weird contacts just for dress up- I mean, ones that are all white or black or have X's in them (and they look super freaky but cool) and ones with different shapes and colors.  Yours obviously aren't going to be that weird, but it's still alright.  Have fun- dress yourself up a bit once in a while!  Even your eyes :)

nah i think it would be a waste of time and money plus they will probably be expensive and they wont last long

well i dont think they last very long and it would be wasting their time if its just for one night, or maybe a few like you said but seriously your not going to wear them that often and if you have them too long they will irritate your eyes, i would recomend not getting them unless you want to wear them like everyday,

no many people do this too. it's kind of like getting your hair dyed, it's just changing the way you look. nothing weird about it. there are lenses made specifically for people who want to just change their eye color, even though they do not need it.

but of course if your mom is not willing to pay for it, then there's nothing much you can do until you make your own money. they can be kind of pricey (well if you are middle class like me), especially after doctor fees and all that.
