  1. Not if you want to save money and not if you buy trip insurance, just in case.

  2. It depends what month you are picking. Tropical storms are at their worst mid August, Sept and October.

The weather bureau is on top of hurricanes and you will know in advance when to be on the lookout.

Just be prepared with travel insurance that covers weather delays and cancellations.

We planned a trip one year for the beginning of October to Dominican Republic and they got hit with a hurricane, our travel insurance covered air and lodging, we just changed destinations and we were good to go. American Airlines will give you a opportunity to reschedule your vacation if they can't fly to a destination, I don't know about other airlines. Always have a plan B.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip)

  3. i guess so, no use in taking that risk.

  4. The peak of the season (hurricane) is September. That doesn't mean there will be a hurricane waiting on you if travel in September. While there may be a hurricane in Exuma the weather can be perfect in Grand Bahama or Abaco. When you travel make plans for a couple more days in the event you can't fly out when you were supposed to.

  5. Not crazy but you are taking a small chance. The Bahamas doesn't usually get hit too hard with hurricanes but from May-Oct it's rain reason. Actually more hurricanes pound the U.S. mainland than The Bahamas. Hurricanes are actually fairly infrequent here, and when one does come, satellite forecasts generally give adequate advance warning so that precautions can be taken.

Many Bahamas hoteliers have instituted a Hurricane Hotel Policy for vacationers which states that visitors who cancel a Bahamas vacation during a hurricane will receive an immediate refund with no penalties. If caught on-island during a hurricane, hoteliers would extend the lowest possible rate and all possible courtesies.

I'm going to Abaco tomorrow and the only crazy weather we are going to have is sunny, super hot weather! But who cares?, you're on the beach!

  6. I found out from a Bahamas local that it actually depends more on the island that you will be visiting. Those islands that are furthest west (New Providence, Grand Bahama, Andros) are not typically as impacted by hurricane weather as other islands. I'm working in the Bahamas now, and the weather has been consistently good - a bit wet and overcast in the morning, but sunny later in the day with only a few scattered drizzles.

Purchase some trip insurance, just in case :)

  7. Hurricane season runs from June 1st to the end of November, with late August thru mid october being the most active times.

Book the trip, and keep an eye on the weather.  It's a great time to take advantage of off season pricing.

But be aware, because it's off season, you may find some restaurants, pools or slides closed for maintenance.

  8. Just because you book a cruise during hurricane season doesnt necessarily mean there will be a hurricane. According to my sources, the time I went to the Bahamas was hurricane season (May) and there was not a cloud in the sky, so I guess its entirely up to God, but I wouldnt say it was crazy.

  9. Listen to what Keiko said. she is on point.

  10. There's no sense in "trying to reason with the hurricane season"  (Jimmy Buffett)

Really, hurrican season is kind of like tornado season in the midwest US; the weather can be beautiful, there is just more of a "chance" for a storm.

As an example, I visit the Carib several times a year; the last five years my trips during October (middle-late hurricane season) have been the best weather of all trips.  As quickly as the shifting trade winds could bring weather, they can also keep moisture moving across the Carib instead of settling in over the islands.

Later in the winter when the weather is more stable, it tends to be a little windier and cloudier, but still nice.

I guess if your choice is to go during the hurricane season or not go at all....GO!!:)
