for parents to make there children live a specific lifestyle like a hippy one or a gothic one?

i had this friend who was always bullied in school because her parents enforced a whole goth lifestyle on her now she says her cousin is being bullied because her family live on a hippy commune and never buy her new clothes or have vaccinations and she smells because they want to save water and i think its awful i mean you can buy new cloths from primark for next to nothing and there's a line between saving the planet and living like a scruff.

  1. Parents like that should be sterilized.

Children should be given the chance to become what they want to be, not copies of their parents.

I wish parents like that would understand that they don't OWN kids.

  2. I think that it's wrong unless the kids totally agree with it.

  3. I would like to ask these same parents how they felt growing up when their parents tried to force a"normal"l lifestyle on them as children? Didn't they resent their parents for forcing their lifestyle on them.Aren't these parents guilty of the same sort of thing.Shouldn't parents who value freedom of expression allow their own children the freedom to be them self ? Isn't is hypocritical of these parents to ignore what the children want? I do believe children need to have structure but I'm not sure exactly what these parents are teaching their children about acceptance and tolerance in life.

  4. It's wrong for anyone to force their opinions or lifestyle onto someone else, regardless of whether that person is their child or not.

  5. If we were to actually get rid of all the problems on the planet. tons of hippie tree huggers would have nothing to do.

  6. if shes ok with it fine but if not thats another story

  7. I think it's wrong. your friend should step to her parents. they should let her choose her own style.

  8. Yeah, they're saving water, but they are also letting personal hygiene suffer, which is bad. Those poor kids are going to grow up with little self esteem if they are bullied, and they'll learn to resent their parents for their lifestyle. If the parents want to practice it, fine. But the kids should be allowed to be like their peers and make the decision to follow whatever lifestyle works for them.

  9. you said you can pick cloths up cheap from primark, if your such a good mate why don't you buy her sum new ones, like you said only a couple of quid, it might not be that her parents want to save the planet, they might simply just not have enough money for their child to keep up with the fashion and trends which are ever changing, and if this is the case then maybe they are doing a good job of parenting with the limited funds that they have.

  10. Yes it's wrong - children should be smartly dressed and properly washed especially for school.

  11. I feel badly for those kids.  I can understand how hard it is for them to blend in with the norm of society.  However, maybe the problem is with society and not with the family who obviously have other values then material wealth?  But, with that being said there is no excuse for being unclean and having poor hygiene.  I agree with you.  There is a line between being green and saving the planet Vs. just living like a bum.  Maybe the parents have no work ethic and use this lifestyle as an excuse to be lazy and live off of the government (entitlement mentality)?  It's a shame their kids are being affected by this.

  12. as long as the parents are paying the bills, you have to like it. how about them just going out on their own, that should be a real wake up call.....................

  13. that's extremely cruel, and they should have dfcs called on them for neglect. that's just ridiculous, i've never heard of that before. wow, they need some pareting skills

  14. I don't agree.  Parents can only raise their children with the lifestyle that they are living at the time.  The only exception would be if the lifestyle was harmful to the kids (like devil worship).

For example, if your parents don't have money, they can't give you the same lifestyle that parents who make a $1 million a year can.  We can only do what we can do.
