Is it customary to 'tip' pizza delivery guys (UK)???

Heres the thing.

A new Domino's pizza has opened about 15 mins away from me and naturally they do home delivery. Now i think they're pizzas are quite expensive (14 quid for a large delivered), but fall just short of that invisible 'i'm not paying that!' line we all have.

Now i have NO IDEA what the etiquette is for pizza delivery guys, are you meant to tip them, or is their 'tip' already worked into the price of the transportation.

I ask because 14 quid is already lot, but if i'm expected to pay 14 quid and then give the guy another 2 quid, then sod it. After all i can buy a blu-ray movie disc for 16 quid.

I'm not being tight, but in my head their is that barrier of 'i'm not paying more than 15 quid for a takeaway pizza'. And to tip will cross that line.

P.S: This question is for UK people only (tipping culture is very different depending on country)

  1. We get Dominoes pizzas every now and then and we never tip - it never occured to me to do otherwise.  After all, there is no waiter service as such, they don't pour drinks out for you and they are not cleaning up after you are they? Perhaps I'm just a scrooge!!!!?

  2. if i pay on the door i normally tip, if i prepay i normally forget

the delivery guy will give you an opportunity to tip him, if you don't he'll just leave. **** it, it's not mandatory

  3. I never tip any takeaway delivery boy.

  4. no.

  5. No.  You're not supposed to tip.  He wouldn't be allowed to accept it anyway and would lose his job if found out that he did.

  6. Definately dont tip. If there is a small amount of change due to you then I wouldn't bother to accept it.

I think the UK mentality is correct - we have a minimum wage here and so tipping should not be automatic - it is only due when the service given is exceptional.

Turning up after 40 minutes with an overpriced pizza prepared by someone else is not exceptional service.

  7. You should tip 10-15 percent for waitresses, waiters or pizza deliveries. It doesn't matter what country you live in...the acronym TIPS means to Insure Proper Service...if you don't want good service than don't tip.

  8. i tip about £1 or £2 but you don't need to! also walk and pick your pizza up!

  9. No, I don't tend to tip them unless they've done something to earn it.  Like if they've been particularly personable, or made a special effort to fix a mistake.

They get paid to do their job, that's what employers are for.

Concerning "tips" as an acronym: Snopes lists this claim as false.

  10. I say don't order pizza then.  Make it or buy it at your grocery store.

  11. We never tip them....in the UK tipping is usual for people who go out of their way for you...so if the cabby gets out and helps you with bags then tip him....if the hairdresser gives you a really good cut etc.

  12. I don't tip pizza delivery.

  13. I never tip in the UK.

The only reason i tip abroad is because there wages is practically nothing.

  14. If you picked it up from the shop would you tip the guy who handed you it over the counter?

    The same principle applies.

  15. We don't tip in the Uk
