  1. during the rut, and when a doe is with its fawn they well kick bite and charge you (or can) but other then that it should be safe to pet them.

but i still wouldn't. and try to stay away from bucks with antlers.

    they can kill you.

  2. ANY wild animal is dangerous to approach.

Deer are spooked very easily so the chances of you getting that close are very low. I actually have a buddy that was hunting deer with a shotgun with slugs once. He missed and the deer charged him and rammed him. My buddy recovered and shot another time and killed the deer however.

Just comes to show, if a animal feels threatened, it will attack, the same as you would.

  3. Ordinarily, they'll prefer to flee.

They have, (very rarely), attacked & injured people

    when cornered or surprised.

As long as the deer has the option to escape,

it's pretty safe to approach it.

Just don't expect it to hang around for a love fest.

  4. It certainly can be.

I was somewhat surprised to hear that my fav NP had never had a "tourist" killed by a bear, but, had had several killed by deer.

People seem to just naturally realize that a bear is dangerous but somehow believe that deer are all "bambi"

I would suggest that you not approach deer, in an attempt to feed, pet, or have your photo taken

  5. IT depends.  If you've just blown a hole through it with a 150 grain soft point, they're Okay to approach, otherwise they're not.

  6. hey a deer is not dangerous to humans, the only time you dont want to approach a deer is in rutting season when the males kill eachother. a deer is most likely to just run if you get near it especially if it has a baby

  7. If someone were to do something extremely foolish like drop down on a deer from a tree that person would be in a world of hurt.  Deer are incredibly strong.  They are muscular and fairly heavy-boned animals with a keen survival instinct.  Bucks use their antlers defensively and their hooves are razor sharp.  Otherwise you're not likely to get very close to a deer in the wild.  Deer have excellent senses and they'll sense you coming from afar.  They are not particularly confrontation with Man.

  8. Approaching any wild animal can be dangerous.... They are completely unpredictable.... Usualy when a deer see's you it will run off.... If you corner a deer and aproach it then it might feel threatened and charge you.  Getting the business end of some antlers charging at you at 30 miles an hour doesnt sound appealing.....

  9. It could be only if it is not acting normal. Like in the rut or if they have been shot in the leg and are wounded and in defense mode.

  10. Yes, but mostly during the rut or mating season in the months of September, October.*

  11. i think its dangerous to approach a mother deer with her fawn. they'll get protective

  12. I guess if you approach a wounded deer, it would be as dangerous as any hurt anumal. I hunt deer, and have never seen or heard of anyone being able to walk up to a normal wild deer. If you surprised one, you would probable see first hand how truly fast they can be, but I doubt you would be in peril.

  13. Stay away from them. They have deer ticks which can carry lime disease, not something you want to get.
