Is it dangerous to build a petrol station when both side got houses people staying?

i live in a housing area. There is a petrol station. Both side got houses ppl living. Is this very dangerous? What are the consequences? What health problems will come up?

Imagine you are inhaling all these petrol. They are carcinogenic. See what they have done for protecting the residents' health.

If you are a urban dweller, you are daily breathing massive amounts of carbon monoxide anyway.  The petrol station is not a significant additional source of pollution.  However, it would be good to put the petrol station away from the residences a block or two.  Another negative is the possibility of a robbery or shoot out at the station, not the best area for raising kids.
