  1. It can be dangerous depending on where the cyst is, but it's normally not. I had a 5.5cm corpus luteum cyst on my right ovary and it twisted at 8 weeks of pregnancy. Everyone gets a corpus luteum cyst in pregnancy (it produces the hormones in the early stages) but they're usually less than 3cm in size and cause no pain at all.

I ended up in the ER in absolute agony when mine got too big and twisted- it was extremely painful. However, it had no impact at all on the pregnancy, and in fact the only treatment was to rest for three days and take paracetamol for the pain. It shrank and disappeared with no treatment by about 13 weeks, and I only had the one instance of pain.

I did a lot of research at the time, and learned that corpus luteal or ordinary ovarian cysts can create problems in pregnancy if they rupture or haemorrhage. If that occurs or if the cyst doesn't shrink or self-resolve, then surgery may be required to remove it. However, this can usually be done after 12 weeks with very low risk to the pregnancy (it's keyhole surgery under a light anaesthetic). If you have a cyst (I assume you do) the best thing to do is not worry about it. You'll know if something is going on with it- take my word on that one. It's exceptionally painful if it twists or bleeds. If it doesn't do either of those things, then it will be totally harmless.

  2. No, not any more dangerous than a cyst is by itself, and its not even dangerous. I'm talking about ovarian cysts btw. I had one on my right ovary and it generally just disappears. Mine did in two months.

  3. There are several types of cyst's and depending on what type and where it's located depends on if it could cause some harm to you or the baby, But as  I said their are many types of cysts, including some that are called cysts which are actually muscle contractions
