  1. Simple answer:

As the sun sets, its rising at the same time all across the earth in one smooth transition over and over again, like drawing a straight line slowly across a sphere in your hand.

Think about this.  The Earth tilts twice a year, too.  So, when its Summer above the equator (the imaginary line in the middle of north and south)... It's Winter below the equator.

So, people in Australia get to have a Christmas in the Summer and the North Americans get to have a Christmas in the Winter.

So, the Earth not only spins completely every 24 hours, it wobbles every 6 months to create a summer for the part that is closer to the sun and a winter for the part away from the sun.

Even more complicated, if you live further north like Lapland or Finland, its sunny 6 months out of the year and dark another 6 months out of the year.

Same thing in the extreme south, too.

    Want to get more complicated?

Well, here goes and hold onto your brain!

The earth moves with the entire solar system, right?  Well, the entire solar system is also moving through our milky way galaxy.  Our earth points to a different constellation in the sky about every 5,500 years.

Right now we are in the equinox or age of Pisces and in about the year 2055, we will be in the age of Aquarius.

Even more trippy, is that we move in and out of the third outer arm of our Milky Way Galaxy.

This takes a lot longer to do so and so, our existence is but a blink of an eye if you compare it to the much larger time scale of all things in the Universe.

Universe means all encompassing of all things.

  2. OK, i'm not gonna get all scientific on you so i'll make it simple:the sun is the earth's light right? well, when the earth is spinning, the sun can't face the whole world at the same time because it's only on one side. so the side facing the sun is day and the side not facing the sun is night(duh!!)

  3. The Earth Rotates on its axis around the Sun.  The half of the Earth facing the Sun at any one time gets daylight, the other half has night-time.

  4. as you already know the sun is standing still in one spot and the earth is orbiting as well as spinning, the part of the earth that is facing the sun is daylight and the part that is not is dark, you with me here? now the poles(north and south) are pretty well getting 6 months of dark and 6 months of daylight, that makes for a long day and a long night, you agree?on google they have a thing called a daylight map and it shows you what part of the earth is dark and what part is daylight and when it happens (time), check that out .

  5. Simple Answer: The world is a sphere, half of it is in the light... half of it is in the dark. The world spins so light and day rotate. Grab a flashlight (the sun), turn off the lights, and point it at a ball (the earth)... the light will flash on one side and the other side will be  dark.

  6. No, it is not.  The earth spins around once each day.  So part of the earth is always facing the sun.  There it is day.  And part of the earth is away from the sun.  There it is night.

So in one place, the sun could be rising, in another place, the sun could be setting, and at another place the sun could be high in the sky.  Right now, in California, where I live, it is almost 6:30 in the evening.  In a few hours, the sun will set.  In Germany, it is probably about 3:30 in the morning--nine hours later than it is here.  There, the sun has already set, and will rise again in a few hours.  In Hawaii, it is almost 3:30 in the afternoon.  There, the sun will not set for quite a number of hours.  And in China, it is a couple hours before noon tomorrow.  There, the sun has been up for quite a number of hours.
