  1. Criteria for adoption varies from state to state, as well as depending on the agency one uses.  Anyone wanting to adopt will have to do a home study in most cases, where they come and visit your home, ask you questions, even talk to people you know and or work with. It’s quite a process but once one gets  their child it all look worth it.

  2. You must be healthy. wealthy and wise.

  3. They look at your overall health of both you (and your spouse if you are married or life partner which ever) and make sure you are healthy enough to care properly for a child.  They look at your finances to make sure you can afford to properly care for a child.  They look at your home to make sure it is safe.  They ask for references that can speak up for you as a person.  They look into how much experience you have with children.  They look at what you do for a living to make sure it isn't illegal or inappropriate for raising a child.  They ask a lot of questions including how you would plan to discipline your child(ren), where they would sleep, what care arrangments would be made, if you have a support system set up,what your goals are for your children, how often you are late on your bills, do you have safe transportation for you and the child(ren), would you be able to provide medical care and insurance .....they ask what feels like a million questions and usually have you type up a "essay" talking all about you and your life experiences and what you have learned over the years and how you have grown as a person.  They need to know if you have any thing like HIV, liver failure....things like that which would affect your parenting because of if you would be alive to care for the child.  They really get into your life but they have to if they are to trust you with a child that needs a great home.

  4. just make sure you ask for it nicely & they'll hand it over no fuss.

  5. How difficult it is depends on the state you live in. In SC, they inspect your life, finances, and home, to make sure that you are fit to be a parent.

  6. I don't know for sure anymore, but when I was adopted they did a background check and home checks as well as psychological assessments.  You might want to check the laws in your area. I'm sure you can find it online easily :)  Good luck!
