Is it difficult to find work and rental properties in Marbella?

Me and my partner are thinking of moving to marbella - but want to make sure we can find decent jobs. Also what is the English speaking community like? as we can't speak any spanish at the moment... Thanks

This is not the best moment to look for work in Marbella... The recession has reduced the work possibilities quite a bit... Rental properties, no problem,

The english speaking community is very large and there are people of all ages, from people who have retired to enjoy the sun, to young people like you who just want a change in lifestyle. All types from super fantastic...to yobs!

In certain areas, you can go for days without even hearing spanish! We have several radio stations and even a certain amount of newspapers in english, Evidently, it is better if you do speak at least some spanish.  Especially when it comes to paperwork, if you want to do everything legally... (which is the safest way).

Also...what type of work would you be looking for? The real estate line (for example) is going stagnant at the moment... Many small estate agencies have folded. Lots of brits come here, like it, stay, open a pub...and go back to the UK flat broke 12 months later....because they don't really know how to manage a pub... It is definitely better to find something in your field.. For example, my computer technician is a brit... Fantastic and very efficient, I know he has had no trouble working here. Last year we put in a new kitchen, it was also done by two fellows from the UK, who work very well, and are always busy and in demand... There are lots of pros and cons... Try coming on a holiday, take a good look around and talk with some of the ex-pats...Then go home, and think it all over before you decide...

Another thing is that there are a lot of latin american immigrants that work in anything they can find, people from eastern Europe, such as Ukraine, Poland, Roumania, etc. and also north african and sub-Saharian people....

no problem at the moment finding work or rental properties, you havn't really done your homework on this have you.

Marbella has a massive English speaking community as a large percentage are British and the houses are very expensive to rrent or buy.

stay away from there and move 20 miles up the coast towards Fuengirola out of the Marbella catchment and house prices drop but the English speaking community is still strong as they are mainly British

Work is not easy to find if you can not speak Spanish and the pay is significantly less than in the UK.



You can find many rental properties but as another reply said, Marbella is very expensive and you can rent in Calahonda, Fuengirola or many other places nearby for much less than in Marbella.

I would strongly recommend learning the language and doing a lot more research, including visiting the area, before you take the massive step of moving, even if the move is only going to be temporary.
