Is it difficult to put a new gauge on your home heating oil tank yourself?

  1. If you are replacing one, it isn't too difficult. If there isn't one there now, it is not a DIY project. Either way, you need to have the tank pumped out if there are no valves on the gauge.


  2. It is an easy project.  Sounds like you are replacing one that already is in place, so a hole for the gauge exists.  After purchase of the new one for your size and style of tank, unscrew the old and carefully pull it up and out of the hole. Note its orientation on the way out to make insertion of the new one easier. Compare old with new to be sure you have properly set it up for installation. s***w in the new making sure that you don't get tangled up with supply and return lines if they are near the guage hole. Done.

  3. you can put a new one in yourself . just get a bunch of wrenches and grunt  away.
