Is it difficult to transfer from a junior college to a senior college?

And i mean a reputable senior college... im currently at a junior college in nyc but thats just because right now i dont have the finances to attend a 4 year college and i just couldnt sit on my *** and do nothing.. im originally from canada and i know i have to take my sat's and do really well. Is there anything else i need to know about making a smooth transition? I was really hoping to aim for NYU arts and science ... for journalism or english .. also is there any portfolio work for journalism?

If by smooth transition, you mean getting in, I think what you would need to do is just to have exceptional grades at your community college. In addition, you should be able to get very good letters of recommendation from professors who know you really well. You should also be able to write a great essay, in some cases, more than one. For journalism, I think you would need to provide a writing sample.

Also, try to be (or at least present yourself as) a well rounded student. By that I mean you should be involved in extracurricular activities and things like that.

They say on NYU CAS website that acceptance rate for transfers is between 10 and 15 percent which makes it quite competitive. I think you should read their transfer admissions page here http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying.for.a...

Overall though, I think if you apply to NYU, and you have a strong application, you will get in. On the other hand, if you apply to Columbia and other Ivy league schools, good grades don't guarantee you much since every other applicant is like you.

if your grades are good there should be no problem transferring

Not if you have good grades and you can afford it.

NYU is a great school but its very pricy and your grades have to be top notch. good luck to you
