to hang a US flag over a window? I have a side window 'bout a foot from the cieling and I have to stand on tiptoe to even see out the very bottom of the window(5') and I hung a stars and stripes over it to keep the sun from glaring on my computer. Is this considered disrespectful to the flag?

  1. Well, you should really hang it to display your pride for this nation, not to protect your computer.

As long as the flag doesn't touch the ground, it's ok. Also, If it can be seen from outside, make sure that, when viewing from the outside, the stars are in the top left. So many people hang their flags up incorrectly; just remember, stars in top left.

  2. Yes, technically.   It's not a curtain. It's the symbol of a free nation.

  3. No not at all..

  4. No, it's not.

The only thing to be cautious of is to hang it upside down.

That is a sign of distress.

Other than that you can do whatever you want with the flag.

It's your Constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression.

As long as you're not stepping on someone else's rights in the process...

As for the flag being a symbol of freedom...that's changing very quickly these days my friends.

  5. First of all, I must express my bewilderment at how people came to "disrespect" a flag (which is simply a piece of cloth, symbol or not) in the first place. I can see stepping on it, burning it, etc., but I don't see how placing it over a window would offend anyone.
