  1. It is easier to have a vasectomy. It can be done in the doctors office and no need to be put in hospital.

  2. It is easier for a male to get a vasectomy.

  3. well when a guy gets a vasectomy its like losing your manhood...so think about that for your guy, really doesnt matter, your not gunna get preggy either way

  4. My gyno said that a vasectomy is easier than a tubal ligation.

  5. It is definitely easier for the man to have a vasectomy.  It can be done in the doctor's office with local anesthetic.  For a woman to have her tubes tied she actually has to be admitted to the hospital, be put to sleep, and have surgery.  There is also a longer recovery period.  Not to mention, if you ever want to have either of them reversed it is much easier and more likely to be successful to have a vasectomy reversed.

  6. Tubal ligation is done in the hospital under anesthesia, costs more, and has a higher short term complication rate. Vasectomy is effective, quick, outpatient and cheap, but has some troublesome complications in 10% of men.

Worldwide, sterilization (tubal sterilization and vasectomy) is used by more people than any other method of contraception. All techniques of tubal sterilization in widespread use in the United States have low risks of surgical complications. Although tubal sterilization is highly effective, the risk of pregnancy varies by age and method of occlusion. Pregnancies can occur many years after the procedure, and when they do, the risk of ectopic gestation is high. There is now strong evidence against the existence of a post-tubal ligation syndrome of menstrual abnormalities. Although women who have undergone tubal sterilization are more likely than other women to undergo hysterectomy subsequently, there is no known biologic basis for this relationship. Although sterilization is intended to be permanent, expressions of regret and requests for reversal are not uncommon and are much more likely to occur among women sterilized at young ages. Tubal sterilization has little or no effect on sexual function for most women. Vasectomy is less likely than tubal sterilization to result in serious complications. Minor complications, however, are not uncommon. Vasectomy does not increase the risk of heart disease, and available evidence argues against an increase in the risk of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, or overall mortality. Although the long-term effectiveness of vasectomy is less well-studied than that for tubal sterilization, it seems likely to be at least as effective. Intrauterine devices and progestin implants are long-acting, highly effective alternatives to sterilization.

Both surgical procedures have complications. Vasectomy can cause decrease in ejaculate volume and expulsive force which bothers some men. Vasectomy can cause chronic testicular pain.

Do a Yahoo! search for "post vasectomy pain" and read a bit. Then do a search for "Post tubal ligation syndrome" and read some about that.

Alternative, non-permanent choices are better. Condoms versus an IUD versus the pill (female), etc.

Surgical treatment of fertility is not a great idea unless you both agree and are certain you can accept the risks.

  7. I get asked this a lot.  I am not in the medical field, but I did a lot of homework on the subject before and after getting my vasectomy.

First of all, don't take ONE IOTA of advice from man that has not had one.  He will have no clue at all.  Ok, so here is the story:

    Vasectomy:

Time = 15min, Recovery = 2-5 days, back in action (having s*x again) = 7 days.  Cost= About $1000 (no insurance), just about free (with insurance).  Side effects = Usually none if doctors directions are followed.  Sometimes sloppy surgery can result in pain to to scar tissue (true with any-kind of surgery).  Pain = Hurts less than getting a tattoo.

    Tubal:

Time = 1 hour, Recover 3-5 weeks, back in action (having s*x again) = about 6 weeks.  Cost= about $5000 (no insurance), just about free (with insurance).  Side effects = For the most part none, but some woman complain about pain from scar tissue (true with any kind of surgery). Pain = Yes

Both of all practical purposeless are for are not reversible.

Vasectomies have been around for over 100 years.  A vasectomy has nothing to do with loosing manhood!  It does not cause hair loss, voice changes, loss or s*x drive, weight gain, or any of the other urban legends.

  8. vasectomy is easier technically but try to explain to Man that he will be the same! Impossible!

  9. A vasectomy is less invasive and less painful (or so i hear)

  10. This depends on how you have it done. I am a woman who had a tubal ligation. www.essure.com

I had it done at 8 am and by 4 pm I was driving and picking up my son at daycare. I was back to work the next day.

If you have a tubal ligation surgery, then the vasectomy would be the way to go.

Check out the ESSURE website...it is the way to go!!

  11. tying your tubes is not a gauruntee. my friends mom had it done 16 years ago & just got pregnant

  12. vaseectomy - less down time less intrusive procedure and it can be reversed more successfully
