  1. If an alien has entered the U.S. as a K-1, there is no need to apply for an IR-1 visa. The K-1 is designed to permit an alien to come to the U.S. for the purpose of marriage to the petitioner within 90 days.

    Once the marriage has taken place, the alien can apply for adjustment of status which will eventually result in him/her being a CR-1. After two years as a CR-1, the alien can apply to remove the conditional status and become an IR-1.

    So, the K-1 visa eventually gets the person into the IR-1 status. It's a step-by-step procedure.
