  1. I don't think it would usually help you on the college end of it, but you sibling might be able to help you on the finer points of applying - such as what they like in essays and what they don't, what will look bad or worthless to them and to therefore avoid participating in, and so on.


  2. It will be an advantage, but it can't make up for the other aspects of your application (grades, activities, awards, etc). If you and another applicant are very close, then it can be the extra edge to get you in; however, it can't really be the only thing to rely on (unless as the other poster said, your sibling/parents donated substantial amounts of money).  

  3. A sibling doesn't make you a legacy (big boost) but it gives a slight boost if you apply while they're still there.

  4. Depends on the college and their specific policies. Some respect legacies, others don't use that as a deciding factor.  

  5. only if your sibling donated $2 million dollars to the school.
