Is it easier to learn how to snowboard if you know how to ski?

Ive been skiing for years...and i'm considering trying out snowboarding...will it be easier for me to start snowboarding since i have years of experience with skiing or will it be as if i am a complete beginner?

  1. You will be a complete beginner again.  The two disciplines are different.

    That said, people who say "skiing is so much easier than snowboarding" were obviously nothing more than beginner skiers themselves, so take what they say with a large grain of salt.  It all comes down to carving in variable conditions.

    It is commonly known that skiing is easier in the beginning (two feet to balance with), but much harder to master (two long edges to control with limited leverage over the tips).  Snowboarding is harder in the beginning (learning that initial balance), but much easier to master (one shorter edge to control and much easier to shift weight fore-aft).


  2. You will be a beginner again. Skiing is so much more easy that snowboarding. Just to get some practice in during the summer months you could try a skateboard to stay fresh.
