I've been looking for work in Boston from Houston for over 6 months now, but I can't get someone to call me. I really want to leave and I was thinking about going even if I don't have any work. Should I leave Houston to Boston with out work and hope that once there I'll find work? I was thinking about leaving Houston the 1st week of Nov. I'll have about $4,000 to $5,000 bucks saved... I really think once I am out there I could find work... Please help! I wanna leave to Boston already!!

  1. $5000 will get you about 4 months in an apartment in the city, as long as you don't have any other bills like gas, utilities, food...

be more aggressive in your job search. if they haven't called you, call them. there's a lot of competition for jobs in boston, and people are not laid back like they are out west. they will aggressively search, and you need to do that too to have a fighting chance. sell yourself to companies as the biggest asset they could ever find. don't be all humble. show off your good traits (without being obnoxious). if they haven't called back after about 5 days of your applying, you need to call them. ask if they got your resume, and that you'd be very interested in setting up a phone interview.

boston has a very competitive job market. i don't know what kind of work you're looking for, but unless it's retail or fast food don't think that you'll be able to find a job as soon as you move there. it just doesn't work that way. do yourself a favor, and secure a job and an apartment before moving. otherwise you stand a scary chance of ending up jobless, homeless, and broke.

and p.s., in november, trust me... you really don't want to leave to boston already! move when it's warm, unless you're already acclimated to 6 months of nothing but gray skies and ridiculous amounts of snow
