  1. Hi Johnny T!

The short answer to your question is "no way". And if you don't speak Spanish, the even shorter answer "no".

Thing is, "bar work jobs" are most often occupied by Latinos whom not only speak Spanish but are also willing to accept a wage lower than you would and willing to work long hours. Bar work is hard work. Don't fool yourself.

Unless you're willing to put in the time, maybe get yourself an English teaching certificate to teach English, it'll be next to impossible unless you have special technical, marketable skills.

Lots of people still think they'll move to, say, Barcelona for the summer and get part time work in a bar at night while hanging out on the beach during the day but those days are long gone - probably 10 years gone by now.

If you're looking to just stay a few months you might simply save-up your cash and then make contacts upon arriving in Spain.

    Best of luck!

    Saludos, BarcelonaMan(.com)

  2. Ok a couple of things.

    1. Where are you from? If you are withing the EU then you shouldnt have a problem.

    2. Do you speak Spanish?? If not this could be a big problem so it would help your cause to learn the language.

    3. Why part time?? Unless you already have lots of money to pay for a house or rent etc. you will not be able to live in Part time hours.... if you were to work full time hours.... you'd be able to pay your rent, buy your shopping and maybe have a night out every couple of weeks.

    4. Your best bet for bar work i would say would be in any Tourist areas of Spain, more so in the south.

But hey,  i too am wanting to move and work in Spain but RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT....... i dont think the move is a good idea given the unemplyment rate etc. in Spain right now. So im gonna take my time, im learning the language now, and once i have the languge learnt and have enough money to pay for rent for a few months then im gonna head out there and look for a job. But if all fails.... then ill just move back to England and try again someday!!

Just keep an open mind, think about everything properly and then make up your mind.

    Good luck.

  3. do you speak fluent spanish? if not try bars around the costa del sol ex:  puerto banus near marbella, lots of aussies/brits there

  4. I understand that jobs are difficult to come by these days for foreigners, but the fact that you are English at least means that you are able to take one legally.  Good luck!  Tourist regions would probably be the most likely places to go.

  5. Yeah, it’s true that unemployment is running high in Spain at the moment but there are jobs if you know where to look. Don’t listen to the doomsday merchants who say it’s impossible. You’re only beat in this life if you think you are dude. I would choose a specific area first and research every employment option on the net. Seek and you will find. You will find something. Bar work pays pocket change so avoid it. Forget any kind of building work as the industry is struggling at the moment. What are you studying at Uni? Do you play any sports? (coaching/lifeguard/ fitness trainer) Any IT skills? Any sales/marketing/admin experience? Everyone is good at something.

Spain has basically the same unemployment/economic problems as everyone else in the E.U. The only major problem you have is you don’t speak Spanish? If you really want to live in Spain, don’t let anything or anyone stop you man. Grab a Spanish course, learn the language and you’ll have a better time out there.

I’m heading out there later this year, but I am learning Spanish first.

Here’s a few links for courses which might help you out. Take care dude and good luck.
