i have a PONTIAC GRAND AM gt now thats automatic and its a very sporty car but it has its problems now that its 5 years old, and i have a feelin it wont last for many more years. so iv been looking like crazy at a lot of new cars i naild it down to 3 cars, a nissan altima coup, an infiniti g37 coup, then the mazda mx 5 also the mazdaspeed3 and some other sporty mazda car. however it came down to mazda in the last few days, infiniti is too expensive, my mom has the nissan altima already, mazda really has what im lookin 4 and they sound like there some of the best cars on the roads now. but i finally got down 2 the speed3 which only comes in manual, and i dont know manual, so do u think it would be easy to learn manual in the mazda?

  1. Manual gearboxes are so easy to drive, anybody who can't change gears shouldn't be allowed to have their license. It's like riding a bike without being able to pedal.

It really is so simple, and you'll have it down pat within weeks. Soon you'll be learning heel-toe shifting, and left foot braking... Then you're learning how to drive for real!

  2. If you can drive a manual Mazda, you can drive anything manual! I've driven a manual Proton Satria GTi (equivalent to driving a Mtisubishi Lancer GTi) and red-lined the vehicle before. And as a speed enthusiast and automotive personnel, I really look forward to finding cars as great as this, eg the Honda Civic Type-R, Ferrari 355 or Subaru Impreza. Tips on speed racing a manual:

    1. Rev hard on your accelerator to test its power.

    2. Push the clutch, engage 1st gear, release the clutch and accelerate heavily.

    3. Shift to second gear and start accelerating heavily again. Your aim to red line the speedometer in the shortest time possible.

    4. Try to use less brake, instead learn downshifting.

    5. Choose most appropriate footwear to control the pedals. Puma Speed Cat would be the best. If you're accustomised to thick sole driving (like me, since I was a Mechanic before becoming a Service Advisor), the you can go for safety shoes or Timberlands or Caterpillar.

    6. Footwork is most important. Practice it with your engine off and your handbrake applied.

    7. Try this sequence - Clutch in, half clutch release, full acceleration, full clutch release, release clutch, brake tapping then immediately full acceleration, full braking together with clutching to gear changing.

  3. Don't worry, it is very easy to learn how to use a manual gearbox.

  4. I learned Manual in a Mazda.

It is harder to learn in powerful cars like the Mazdaspeed.

But once you learn it, its worth it.

  5. It's easy to learn> Do you know anyone with a manual to practice with? Find a big parking lot  WITHOUT car stoppers and drive around. The only problems are starting and stopping. Shift down before entering a turn to accelerate out.
