  1. at first it may be hard. like your fingers are struggling to pinch the correct fingers onto the fret board and strum at the same time but practice makes perfect try to learn a easy song first like "leaving on a jet plane". try to visit ultimate-guitar.com and you will get some lessons there and the also experience is the best teacher try to jam with other people so you will able to apply what you have learned and get tips from them you may enroll for lessons too. and if your really passionate about it, who knows you might be the next rock icon playing for the crowd . ^_^

  2. My friend says it is.

He even persuaded me to take up guitar.

But of course, we both have some kind of background in music so we know how to read notes and the order of the note letters so actually all we need to learn is which string is which.

If you don't have a background in music, then I wouldn't say it is easy. It is a lot of work and you need a lot of determination and perseverance in order to sound decent.

  3. Its been said that the guitar is one of the easiest instruments in the world to play really really badly -- and one of the most difficult in the world to play really really well.

This seems to be very true.  Its not that hard to learn a handful of basic chords and strum basic accompaniment to simple rock or folk or country songs -- maybe a few months, if you practice everyday.  A lot of people -- maybe most people -- who take up guitar never get any further with it than that.

But to actually master the instrument, to be able to play anything you hear in your head or read from sheet music, to be able to improvise fluently and play confidently with other musicians, and so on -- takes YEARS of study and practice.  Its NOT easy.

So you have to decide --  how good do you want to be on guitar, and how much time and energy are you willing to put into learning?

  4. Yes it is.  It is easy to learn a few chords.  Thousands of popular songs only have 3 chords anyway.  Look how many people play,... it can't be that hard.  Just stick with it in the beginning when the tips of your fingers will be a bit sore and it will be very slow to change between chords but it comes faster than you think.  If you practice a few minutes everyday its way better than hours for one day a week.  Your mind learns the playing in your sleep and if your progress is bad one day, it can jump big over night.

It's extremely easy to write a song.  Just write one.  If you say it is a song then it is.  Make it to your ears satisfaction and that's it.  It's art.  Write words you like and play the music you like.

Just remember to have fun with it.  Whack the strings hard as you want or soft as you can and enjoy the sounds.

  5. if you know how ...

  6. No - it's very, very difficult.  You might want to consider something else.

  7. learning to play background chords is easy.  Learning to play well enough to create melodies and songs is going to take more.

What have you got to loose. Go for it.

    Enjoy and Good Luck.
