  1. It takes about five years to get started on the violin.

  2. it's only hard at the begining!!! you learn how to play the note after a couple of months and you know where exactly to place your fingers after a year or something like that!!

  3. Violin is one of the harder instruments at the beginning.  The fingerings are a little tough to learn, then you must accustom yourself to the discomfort of holding the thing under your chin, and then you must learn how to use the bow--and that's the toughest part.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist, and bowed strings were one of my last challenges--I first took up cello about 20 years ago.  Took me a long, long time (but part-time, concentrating more on woodwinds, my primary instruments) to get the bowing down decently.  For a beginner who's doing only violin, it will take months, maybe up to a year, and then you'll still have lots to learn before you're really good.

Now, I believe all instruments are equally difficult to play well--so in the long run, violin compares with the others favorably.

  4. It all depends on how talented you are in this direction-I would be hopeless forever!

  5. It is kinda hard but after you learn essentials...it will be a big pleasure. It is the best feeling. Violin makes you cry sometimes. So if you wanna learn how to play violin... do it NOW!

  6. i took 3 months

  7. I play 11 instruments, including viola and cello. and all of them were self taught except for my very first instrument. learning to read music is an invaluable talent! Getting started is fun. The fingerings are not too difficult, and becoming accustomed to how to properly hold the bow isnt too hard. always be careful to use enough rosin, and never touch the hairs on the bow with your fingers. the oil can damage the horse hair. once you get a little progress, after 6 months id say, you will see how much you are improving daily. your fingers will get tired, but keep practicing. the hardest part for me was mastering vibratto. but that will come much later. take your time and you will do fine. and dont expect symphony quality at first. just have fun with it.

  8. When you start its hard, but once you get use to it im sure that it will be a little bit easier.

    Practice makes perfect.
