I am planning on buying a pair of skis. Is it easy to mount the bindings?

Do I have to look for a certain type or can I just go with the most cost-effective ones?

  1. Unless you have the correct jig needed to drill the holes for the bindings, I suggest that you don't do this yourself.

Likewise, if you have never mounted a pair of skis yourself, you shouldn't try this. There's more to it than just drilling holes. The skis have to be balanced as well.

Some bindings are easier to mount than others. It depends on the brand.

Some skis have pre-drilles holes for binding placement, however this is unusual and certain skis will only work with certain bindings.

Take it to a shop. It will cost you about $30.

Having tried to mount bindings without a jig and the proper tools myself, I can tell you that the chances of you s******g it up are pretty good...I know this from experience.

  2. yes it really is.

  3. Mounting the bindings is easy, if you have the right equipment, jigs and the correct screwdrivers. Also the DIN settings must be correct for you. The pro shop can do all of this easily. Most shops will do a free mount and adjust if you buy the package from them.

When you buy the skiis, ask the shop which binding they recommend, some ski bindings will not work with some skiis. Other ski/binding combinations are designed to work as a team. Atomic used to have a 1 year guarantee on the skiis, but 2 years if you bought the bindings also.  I haven't checked with a shop this season so it may have changed.  Another consideration is the riser plate and the ramping of the binding to your foot/boot combination and any ramp of the ski.  Your boot fitter can give advice on this.

  4. Don't go with most cost effective. There are certain binding that work better with certain skis. I would have them professionally mounted. Messing with bindings isn't a good thing because this is a MAJOR safety feature of the skis and the ability to have them release correctly is super important. Spend the extra dough. Its mid season now so rent demos to find the best you like and buy them at end of season sales. You might even negotiate with ski shop to do the bindings in off season for break on cost.

  5. Buy your skis and ask!!!

usually the place you buy them from can help u get the bindings that fit your ability. do not mount bindings yourself. leave it to the pros

their are adjustments so the boots fit and also how tight you want them from 1-10    3 for a beginner and 10 if you want them practally welded on

  6. Totally agree with the former post.... I also would advise to take them to someone who has the correct knowledge and tools for the job.

As for the bindings, it really depends on the level of you skiing. A tech at your local ski shop would advise.

    All the best
