I am told that the engine mount on my peugeot 106 is nackered, however, i prefer to stay away from a mechanic because im a student with low funds. I have the basic tools at home. Is this a hard job? How would i go about it?

  1. It shouldn't be that hard. It really depends on access to the part. If you have easy access or the right tools to access it, just do it. Make sure to put a piece of wood on a jack and hold the engine up with a jack under the oil pan. Don't put the jack on the oil drain plug.

  2. i never done it  but i change and engine  and i didnt think that i could do it at first  if you think  you can do it go ahead dont forget that you need to lift the engine to take presuure of the mount

  3. I'm not a mechanic but I had my friend who is replace my mounts (97 Altima).  To answer your question, in theory, it is not difficult.  If you have a large sturdy jack or something to stablize the engine while you change them it can be done.  Problem is that if it's not sturdy enough, it would be extremely difficult to pick your engine off the floor and it could serousyly damage other parts on the way down.  The other problem my friend (who had done this many time before) ran into was just that it was a tight fit under the hood and it took a lot of sweat, and time to align the engine back to where it was so he could s***w on the mount.  I didn't envy him and I was so glad I didn't try it myself.  So, if you only think of it as unscrew the mount keep the engine from falling over, replace and rescrew, yes it's easy.

Chances are, though, it would not go as smooth as that and you'd then need a tow to a shop.
