Is it easy to take a bike on Caltrain?

I read some information on Caltrain site and they mentioned something about you can only bring a bike a a specific bogey and there's a limited bike space on the train.

I'll be relocating to the bay area soon and may be, on a good day, I'll use a bike + train to go to work (between San Mateo and San Carlos). I wonder how practical would it be...

  1. Yeah, that would be no problem.  The only risk is if all the spots for bikes are taken.  You should try it a few times and see if this is going to be a problem or not, but I don't think it will.

  2. Yes, it is rather simple to get your bicycle onto a Caltrain.  I commuted from Mountain View to San Carlos for 3 years and rode my bike EVERYDAY.

YES, there IS limited space, but some of the rush-hour trains are adding a SECOND bike-car due to rising ridership.  Those of us who ride each day have our bikes LABELLED with our stops, and we all try to put our bikes next to others going to our stop or FURTHER so as to minimize fuss and entanglements.

Here is a link to their official information: http://www.caltrain.com/info_bicycles.ht...

I'd suggest taking a "practice-trip" on a weekend just to learn where bikes go and how easy it is to load up.

GOOD LUCK and welcome to San Carlos
