Question:

Is it ethical to kill something for your tastebuds?

I want to talk about veal. Does anyone else think veal is one of the cruelest things? Me and my family were talking about it the other day and my Nan thinks it should be banned.

For anyone that doesn't know- Veal is the meat of a calf that lived on a diet low in iron.

  1. veal sounds gross as is and never should've made cows that way in the first place. nasty.

  2. it's horrible

and to think i've been fooled into eating it once.

    Ban it!

  3. It's cruel, but as humans, we are God to most other creatures.  We control everything, we have no natural predators.

  4. Yep, I think most people (in Great Britain at least) that veal is very cruel.

  5. I agree it is cruel. I dont like the thought of eating something so cute but I dont think it should be banned because the fact is there are other people in the universe that actually enjoy it as well as it being a source of income to some poorer farmers in the Lower Zambezi in Zambia, Africa

  6. yes.

  7. It's a little ignorant just say these things about veal calves and overlook all the other animals produced for food.  What about adult cows kept inside for milk?  Or battery chickens? are these things not cruel too?

  8. I do not particularly like veal but I do not consider it unethical.

  9. I don't agree with Veal production!

    But I do eat meat!

  10. not just low in iron but kept out of daylight and confined to a small area this i do not agree with

  11. I don't think it is! But thats cause i'm vegan!!

  12. I am not a vegitarian, but i do not eat anything from a feed lot.  Veal is cruel and yes it should be banned.

  13. it's the food chain. plants are living organisms too by the way, why doesn't anyone complain about eating them

  14. yea veal production sucks, but veal realy is as good as its made to be.  ive cooked with it alot, and you cant find much better beef but cows are too stupid to realize they are living a horrible life and at least it is ended quick even tho i do again disagree with how it is made, but w/e we are stupid humans based on destruction of the world and are eventaully going to completely ruin it, so wth? why not enjoy our lived while we can?

  15. Taste has more to do with the chemistry of our taste buds. If I was eating a suculent, tendwer juicy veal stake whilst watching a video of how it was made -- it wouldn't taste nice on a psychological level regardless. It's like the blue food rule. People who love veal are either evil or in denial about how its made.

  16. It's life. You not eating a piece of veal will not make ANY difference whatsoever, as someone else will eat it instead!

    Veal is tasty too..!

  17. Veal & lamb are killed at THE SAME AGE.

BRITISH veal production is VERY diferent to the 'continental veal crates' and typically 'cruel' image perpetuated by the tabloids.

Barn raised or 'Free range' calves have room to move, contact with others, warm & well fed.

A specifically "low iron diet" is just rubbish - do some research - these animals would BE DRINKING MILK and just starting to graze...the pale meat colour TYPICALLY associated in veal production is achieved through restricted exercise but NOT a prerequisite of the meat.

Personally I have no issues with PROPERLY raised animals. Better that these MALE CALVES are 'put to a fitting use' than simply slaughtered (economics) or exported to France / Spain / Italy.

oh, yes. If ANYBODY drinks cow's milk, eats cheese - THEY ARE PART OF THE VEAL TRADE as cows NEED to be bred to maintain milk production...females=more milk...males=veal.

  18. worry about humans being abused and harmed..people in america seem to care more for their pets and animals, when they should be carig more about their own children and family members and how you treat them..these animals have no souls and they are food, get over it.

  19. its just human nature for us to kill for food, just because we now live in houses, buy clothes, watch tv and dont go out hunting for food anymore doesnt mean that we are'nt still part of nature.

although certain practices do need to be looked at, especially the treatment of animals reared for food, i believe veal is also kept in the dark in a chamber which it cant even turn round in,(it might be vennison) that surely cant be right. i dont eat veal or vennison

  20. dont ask others, if u feel that its unethical dont do it...

  21. I think the way most animals that are being bred for human consumption are treated appallingly..... If you read in the newspaper that some evil person had done something horrible to an animal you would say how disgusting it is but when it comes to what we eat people pretend it doesn't really happen.... To answer your question in short yes I do think it should be banned and I also think that it should be possible to find out exactly where your meat is coming from and what goes on in there...... A few people might turn veggie if they knew the truth...... I think all life deserves respect, just because something isnt human doesnt mean it isnt just as important

  22. First of all, it's not just just for taste- protein, calories etc. are in there too. There are not many things I wouldn't eat, and I have had veal before, but didn't like it-that is the only rason. But when you get something like fois gras that keeps the animal in totally agony before it is killed is not acceptable. (If you are easily upset, don't look it up.)

Personally I think you should be able to eat just meat, or just veg, or both, and not let anyone judge you.

  23. You can talk all day about banning it still won't get banned though.

  24. food is food.

  25. I don't know anything about a low iron diet, but we always butchered calves that were only milk fed.

d**n tasty and besides, why butcher it later, when you can enjoy it more sooner?
