My aunt and uncle sent me a Barnes and Noble gift card to help pay for college books after the Christmas break was over and I was too busy with classes to thank them. Now I want to do this but will it cause more trouble than what its worth?

  1. Go ahead and thank them. If you want, you could always say that you wrote a thank you letter several months ago and thought you mailed, it but you just found it in your desk or something. I have done that a few times, ha.

  2. It is NEVER too late! Simply thank them and then do the right thing, grovel and beg forgiveness. A sincere apology for overlooking common courtesy works wonders, provided it really IS sincere and an honest oversight on your part. NOT like the empty insincere apologies politicians make on a regular basis these days, but a REAL apology and MEAN it.

Dear Aunt ABC and Uncle XYZ: I received the gift card you sent last Christmas and I am SO sorry! I got wrapped up in school, one thing after another after another, and in the confusion, I simply forgot to thank you for your kind and generous gift. It was an honest mistake on my part and I will try my absolute best not to let an oversight such as this happen again, ever. Again, I thank you for your generosity and I am so sorry for not thanking you earlier. Please accept my sincere apology.Sincerely, your nephew, PQR.

Like I said, sincere apology, grovel a bit and thank them again... Believe me, even though it is way late, your thank you and apology will not go unnoticed, but your failure to even acknowledge receipt of the card WILL be noticed AND remembered for a LONG time if you do nothing. It only takes one aw-sh*t to wipe out a thousand atta-boys...

  8. No, it is never too late.  Saying thank you is the polite thing to do.  Sending a thank you note also lets the sender know you have received the gift.
