Is it expensive to holiday in italy?

just trying to work out how much spending money my son will need for a 5 day trip to italy with his school

Europe is a very expensive place. a way you can cut down on the money you are spending you can buy food from a local supermarket and eat it in your hotel because eating in Italy is what is very expensive.

Hi spent a lovely couple of weeks there last year.  obviously wine quite cheap but hopefully he wont be buying that.  It all depends where you are in the cities and service stations bottled water can be expensive ie 3-4 euro for a bottled but we found in the smaller towns it was 1 euro per bottle.  Mcdonalds about 1and half times uk price.  For an adult I would recommend in taking some sodium tablets.  Oh and the Pizzas are cheap and sooo good.

Since you specified "spending money", I assume that his food and lodging are taken care of.  For snacks, water, and soft drinks-probably 10-15 euros per day.  For souvenirs, maybe 15-20 euros per person, and 50 euros for himself.  Make a list of the number of people he wants to buy stuff for before he leaves.

If food is not included, he should bring about 60 euros per day.  Food is generally much cheaper than this, but with a school group, they will certainly be hitting the touristy spots.  It is way better to bring too much money than to have his self-esteem hit when he can't afford coca-cola like his classmates.

If he also needs money for museum/site entrances, it's about 10-12 euros for each.  The school should have a list of the activities, so count them and include (just to be safe) 12 euros for each one (i.e. the Colosseum, the Borghese Gallery, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Vatican Museum).

If you can trust him with it, send him with a credit card.  They're accepted in most places, and it will give him some leeway in case he gets pick-pocketed.  He shouldn't carry it around with him-keep it in the Hotel safe or with a teacher.  (And remember to give him the PIN code.)

Give him €500 for the five days and tell him to be careful with it. If his accommodation and food is already taken care of, he should have plenty with that.

Hi,,,, well, it all depends on if he has to buy his own meals or not.... food can be reasonable, but there are expensive places also.. If it were my kid,, i would send about 100 dollars a day... or at leas 300.... it is not difficult to spend that much ...

That would include spending money also for things....

It really depends on where you are going.Usually touristic places are more expensive..of course..but still,coming from UK you will find it reasonable.Better to avoid coffe places in squares,usually more expensive,they can even ask you 10 euro for a coffee.

In general,-yes!!!!!!-Work out how much you would give him in the UK and add on at least half or to be very safe then double it(he can always bring some Euros back)Decent food is pricey-and so too are drinks(apart from wine)-but I'd guess he's not old enough for that!!
