  2. Sydney is the most expensive city in Australia... To give you a guide I'll tell you how much average items cost in Aussie Dollars (which are about 85-90c US at the moment)

House - Sydney Avg $500 000 (but can be anywhere from $250k - $20mill) - Other states you can get a good sized house for around $350,000 in standard suburbs.

    Can of Coke - $1.50

Large Big Mac Meal - $6.95

    2 litres of milk - $2.50

Loaf of bread - $2.50 standard to $5.00 for gourmet loaves

    postage stamp - 50c

    Subway Sandwich $6- $9

    Hope this helps!

  3. Australia is expensive compared to some other countries, but our salaries are a lot higher too. The important measure is that ordinary Australians in ordinary jobs have a good standard of living - it's difficult to be more specific than that.

In terms of capital cities, Brisbane housing is more expensive than Adelaide's, but most other things are about the same or perhaps a little cheaper in Brisbane. Queensland has a much stronger economy than SA making Brisbane salaries higher than those in Adelaide for many jobs and there is more work available.

  4. SA has Australia's second lowest cost of living due to lower house prices and is good value for money (lowest is Tasmania). Most people in Australia live reasonably comfortably with the incomes they have here - middle class or upper middle class/professional. There is relatively little poverty or extreme wealth.

  5. depends where your comparing it to

  6. its expensive to live everywhere in australia i swear im never goin to own my own house or car or anything expensive in the future! all well it could be worse!

  7. Ok I am in Brisbane, rent for a three bedroom house starts at about $280 for something not very fancy at all (a week plus power phone gas), you may get a small apartment for $200 a week.  Food for one per week could cost you from $70 plus, depending on cooking at home after shopping or what you like to eat.  Power costs a week, estimate about $15, phone, up to you.  Petrol at the moment here has just dropped for the first time in a long time to $1.50ish per litre.  Hope this helped you a little bit.  The further away from the cities, the cheaper usually the rent.
