  2. I've never lived in the US before but I can tell you about living in Scotland because I'm from there! The most expensive place to live is either in Edinburgh or Glasgow, more likely Edinburgh because it's the capital.

The average rent per month in an Edinburgh flat that's within 20-30 minutes walk from the centre, is around £350. The outskirts are much cheaper at about £300, and if you're really lucky, you could find one for £250, but that might be on the edge of th city. This is per person in a sharing flat by the way.

Glasgow is much cheaper, the average is about £300, but the cheapest might be about £200.

At the moment I live in Paisley, I pay £240 a month. In the past few years, my cheapest rent has been £170 a month. Paisley is only 7 miles from the centre of Glasgow, and 10 minutes away by train. Paisley is also home to Glasgow International Airport.

Living in the outskirts is usually always cheaper than the central belt (Glasgow and Edinburgh). It's better to live in a large town and commute to the city, than live in the city in my opinion. My guess is that the USA is cheaper to live in than Scotland, but at least we have quality, not quantity.
