Is it expensive to repair a Beko fridge freezer?

I have a large Beko frost free 50/50 fridge freezer, the freezer has 4 drawers. The freezer is working fine but the fridge will not cool at all. Are these things expensive to repair & is it cost effective? Its not that old & looks pristine so Im loathed to just throw it out but dont see the point in spending best part of the price of a new one on repairs or a call out fee to be told the obvious. Does anyone know if these things are sometimes fairly simple to repair & can actually be worthy of repair?

  1. If it is the compressor, no I wouldn't fix it. Replace it.

Sometimes it is just a timer. They are like $10 plus labor.

So it depends on what is wrong, but I don't have a crystal ball to know your situation. It's probably going to cost you $120 for a service call to find out.

  2. I agree with Powder Pete.  If the freezer is OK then there is a good chance that the thermostat will be ok.  There may be an air lock in the refrigerant.  Fully defrost the appliance, turn upside-down for 24 hours, then turn the right way up and leave for a further 24 hours for the refrigerant to settle.  Then switch on and there is an excellent chance that your fridge/freezer will start to work properly.

  3. This happened to me this year.

Plug it out for 48hrs, then plug it back in, there's a blockage in the up pipe from the freezer to the fridge!

Don't forget to empty freezer 1st.

Do Not Turn it upside down, there are gas's in it, you will really break it if you do this.

  4. Get a couple of ice chests and transfer the products.Unplug it and leave the doors open for a day. This is a hard defrost. When you plug it back in the next day there is a 80% chance that it will begin to work as designed.

Try this before calling for service and you will save much cash.

    Good luck.

  5. It could just be feeling tired.

Try unplugging it and turning it upside down for twenty four hours, this often gets rid of airlocks in the system.

If this does not work change the thermostat in the fridge unit..., not too difficult to do and not to expensive, if you do it yourself.

Turning it upside down is what I would do - gravity sends the oil to the fridge unit making it easier for the tired pump to keep it there when the appliance is returned to the right way up (after twenty four hours).
