  1. for me,  its unfair because literally not all jobs or companies hire people who are computer literate. many people are accepted in other companies not because they are computer literate but because of their knowledge.... many companies accept people who are not computer literate and only teach them how to use the computer when its really needed.....

    i hope that teaches you....

  2. No I do not think it fair, companies could then teach the person hire a) how to use a computer and the companies in house procedures in using commercial software they have on the computers, and layouts for documents etc. b) how to use the companies own software. I can understand to a certain degree if the company does not have its own software, in-house training would be enough to teach their procedures for using commercial software and layouts for documents etc.

Having said that it also not fair to discriminate against people because of their age, too young or too old. Nor because of there race/colour, religion, gender or their sexual preferences. Not enough experience – how do you get experience before getting job (OK volunteering for a charity, but you may need money to pay bills and live) or you a do not have the qualifications companies at one time trained their staff. Too much experience or over qualified (yes I have been told I was over qualified) you would not go for a job if you didn’t want it over qualified or not.

  3. In the early days of computing only one or two people in a concern might know how to use a PC. They would also be the only ones doing the work. Companies make huge investments in computing infrastructure and software. Remember that to the employer, an employee is simply another thing used to generate profit. Employees are actually very expensive, and if they cannot interface with the tools in the workplace they do not generate as much profit. There are many ways one can learn, and if one is not computer literate, can at least earn a certificate for specific training. Having this in hand often increases the value of an employee when negotiating salary. YOL BOSUN!

  4. Sure it is. Education is the responsibility of the individual... and in certain cases the govt.

  5. What parts of life are fair anyway fair is a word that weak people use to bargain with.

  6. Since most business today is done via computer, why should they bother hiring the illiterate ones? It would only cost them productivity, especially if they have to train them.
