If they did when they were young? I know FOR A FACT that my parents did when they were younger. They went to Berkeley! I've heard the stories. But I'm grounded right now because my dad found a joint in my car. Isnt that hypocritical and wrong? It was one joint. There is a picture I found once of my dad with a BONG. Sooooo

  1. i think its the fact that it was in your car.

if your gonna go ahead and do something like that then do it wisely and hide it from your parents.

its kind of disrespectful allowing your parents to find it in your car.

  2. Parent generally want there children to do better than what they did!!!!! it may seem hypocritical but its there way of protecting you, plus its jus plain ol illegal nd if u get bust they can be held legally responsible.

  3. yes it is fair for you parents to go berserk as they probably learnt the error of there ways and don't want you to go down the same path as them.

back in the 70's there wasn't much information about what pot can do to your body, now we know that it does MORE damage than tobacco smoking.

  4. MAYBE theres a switch in one of the rooms!...Remind me to check..

  5. Well it IS illegal. If they were theives, would it be okay for you to be one?

  6. Yep, sorry, they are the parents - when you have kids, you get to be the parents and make the rules!

If you don't like them being angry with you for smoking pot, don't do it!

  7. It isn't your job to question the authority of your parents.

  8. I think it is absolutely fair. Just because they did it doesn't make it right. Don't get me wrong, I don't see all the hoopla in people smoking weed. I mean it is safer than drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. But the fact is is that it's illegal. Yes, okay, you're parents smoked when they were younger. But do you think they want to see you follow the same footsteps? Or worse, get busted??? I don't think your parents want to have to go pick you up from the jail house at 3 in the morning. If I allowed my children to do what I did as a teen we would have some problems!!! I put my mom through absolute h**l!!! Basically you have to decide, what is more important. A good relationship with your parents? Or a little recreational pot? I don't think it's that complicated.

  9. Yeah, but you aren't being raised by your young pot smoking college student parents, you are being raised by the older parental version of them. They have to do that or they would feel like bad parents. If everyone was only as protective of their kids as they were of their teenage selves there would be a lot more messed up/dead kids in the world.

  10. It depends on your age. Keep in mind that berkley is college. It's fair because they're your parents. I honestly think they would be horrible parents if they didn't care. From what I've heard, no matter what you've done, everything changes when you have children.

  11. its cuz they grew up and matured, they now know it wasnt right, back then, they had the same thought as you. and when you get older, your gonna think the same exact same thing. so its better to mature early. for fact, weed does make people A LOT slower. my brother is like a r****d, hes only been smoking for 2 years. he forgets everything. i wouldn't blame your parents.

  12. You're right, it does seem hypocritical. I will tell you this: when my son told me he was smoking cigarettes (like I used to), I wasn't happy. I told him I really didn't want to see him have to go through what I did, especially since he had the power to stop. Was it hypocritical? Sure. I did it to do what I could to save him from all the bad things that go along with his decision.

Like it or not, pot is still illegal. While smoking a J in your car may have been something your parents did, them trying to spare you getting your license revoked or crashing the car is fair enough. They need to take the heat for being a hypocrite, but if it spares you the ugly consequences, it's a heat worth bearing.

  13. It is hypocrytical... but theyre saying dont do it out of experience. So listen to them obviously. they know what theyre talking about.

  14. Yes it's fair.  Parents make mistakes, but they also learn from them, which is what your parents are trying to help you do.

  15. The most important thing to remember is that you are living in their house with their rules.  And you mention that you know your parents smoked pot when they were young because they went to Berkeley.  That's college.  You can do whatever you want to do when you get to college.  In fact, that's when you should be experimenting.  Not in high school.

Also, you shouldn't be smoking pot while driving.  That shows your irresponsibility on many levels.  One, it's considered dangerous (whether you agree or not).  Two, it's illegal.  Granted, it's illegal no matter what, but smoking while driving you are just BEGGING to get caught.

My advice is to accept your punishment and apologize for disrespecting your parents rules.  Understand that they know better than you and are only doing this out of love for you and your safety.  And wait to experiment with drugs and whatever else until you are older and out of the house.  THAT would be the responsible thing to do.

  16. Yes, pot is illegal regardless of what they did in their youth

  17. i think its fair.

  18. Its fair. It may feel "hypocritical", but its less than you'd think because they were there at one point in their lives and know what happens when you abuse your body like that.

Maybe you'll understand someday...... hopefully not before its too late.

  19. Being underage, sadly it is fair.

They might have smoked but they were over 18.

I personally wouldn't ground my child for smoking as long as they were responsible about it

OMG yes there is such thing as a responsible pot smoker!

Look at everyone you've ever met, at least 50 of them smoke and aren't the stereotypical stoner, can hold a job, do good in school, etc.

  20. so what when your a parent you ll understand. being a parent is a great reason to become a hypocrite there is alot of c**p they dont want there kids doing what they did and it isnt untull your older that they really looking back and thinking how much worst there life would have been if they got caught, its the same as a mother who was a teen mom going around and promoting unsafe s*x for her daughter

  21. Sooooo....it sounds like they have first hand experience for why they don't want you to do the same.

I know at times that parents seem hypocritical and too harsh, but it is in those moments that they are doing what they know is in your best interests.

  22. It's totally fair for them to get mad.  3 weeks?  You should consider yourself lucky.
