Is it fair to judge a person's sexual orientation by the music they like?

Yesterday I remarked to a co-worker that I really like the song "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. and she was like "that is so g*y". wth? I just gaped at her and then was like "what does "that" mean"? And she said "Oh, that song is just so q***r. No guy would like that song unless he was a c**k knocker".

Personally I think she's a complete imbecile and a brainless twitch. But, the fact remains I "am" g*y (only she doesn't know that for sure) and I "do" love that song. So is there something tell-tale about the music one likes? I mean I like Moonlight Sonata in C# Minor; does that make me evidentally g*y? I like Ministry's "Jesus Built My Hotrod"; does that signify I'm g*y?

What are your thoughts?

  1. Music taste does not signify you are g*y, people are just idiots.  I like Cher and I'm straight!  I like Dolly Parton too.

  2. Maybe she does know you're g*y and was having a go at you. Either that or she's an idiot. Music is music, and people like whatever sounds good to them.

  3. i love that song and i'm straight as can be

  4. wel......

while it isnt fair to judge that person based on ONE stereotypical song....if it turns into a pattern (like 5-7 really g*y songs) then it becomes really tempting to judge, not gonna lie.

  5. What a *****. Shes g*y.

  6. Nah, she's just being an idiot, ignore the b*tch.

I mean, I listen to everything from metal to jazz and the only thing that makes people assume I'm a L*****n is because I'm constantly sporting a pair of Doc Martens.

So..., are my feet are g*y?

Well, my boyfriend of five years obviously doesn't mind, haha.

Anything can make someone assume you're g*y or straight or bi or whatever but that's all they are, assumptions. Just a coincidence that you like a "g*y" song and that you are g*y.

  7. d**n then i'm a total homo b/c i liked britney spears music (back then at least) and i have her on my ipod.

nah the music u like doesnt make u g*y/straight...none of that.

if it sounds nice to u...that's it! how does that make u g*y? lol

  8. music has nothing to do with being g*y,no one has said stuff like that to me even though everyone knows i luv tokio hotel and i always wear tokio hotel badges, but seriously no one has ever asked me if i was g*y based on that, even though i always metion how i`m crazy about bill kaulits whenever i`m talking to someone about music.she might use that phrase alot instead of emotional and mushy

  9. Music can say a lot about people.  Now, some songs that deal with homosexuality may actually mean you are g*y.  For instance, a song called "He Whipped My A$$ in Tennis (Then I F!#ked his A$$ In Bed)" can sort of hint that someone is g*y.  It's a real song by the way, and I like it.  Guess that says something about me...

Anyhoot, I digress.  Simply saying that music "sounds" g*y is stupid!  Music is far to impacting and meaningful to simply sound g*y. as a person who loves music, I can say that all songs (almost) have musical merit, and loving them does not make a person g*y.  Music transcends things like that.  Music touches are souls.  Really- I'm in love with music.

  10. you should have been like i am g*y. she would have been so embarrassed and felt like an idiot.
