I have my comcast cable box on top of my SAMSUNG surround sound/dvd player. There are NO heat vents on top of the samsung unit, only a fan in the back, and I dont think the cable box gets hot enough to really cause any damage. Is this fine? I have no other place to put them side by side so this is my only option. I'm just trying to get some peice of mind despite the warning on the samsung manual to "not stack" items on top of it.

  1. i wouldn't stack them!  i just read that you should have 3 inches of clearance around your cable box.  my cable box and dvd are side by side and i have enough clearance around my cable box (comcast hd/dvr) and it is super hot.  i had to put the fan on it last night.  i'm not sure what is going on.  i hope my house doesn't burn down!  hopefully someone will give us some insight regarding the heat from a cable box!

  2. You should be fine, just make sure that you get plenty of air to circulate behind the unit. I may be mistaking but I believe the warning has to do with the amount of weight on top of the unit and preventing the DVD to spin.  As long as you get a lot of ventilation you should be good to go.  If not send it back and don't tell them you had them stacked.
