My phone provider is vigin mobile. I sent an email to <my phone number>@vmobl.com. The message arrived at my phone withing a few seconds. Was it free? If not who payed? Are there any free alternatives to this? I would want to set it up with a php script so I can send SMS to my phone in certain events. Is there a free way to do this?

I have never looked into this field (mobile phones and computers) because I always believed it was expensive. Could someone please explain all this to me, as I have little knowledge of this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

 1. VirginMobile will charge you for incoming and outgoing SMS messages. You can buy unlimited SMS for $19.99/month, I believe. If you don't subscribe, they will charge you something to the tune of $0.05 per message. Other mobile service providers might have different terms that you might want to check out on their respective websites.
