I have cholecystitis and am waiting on an ultrasound to see if ti's gallstones. While I have pain in my upper back occassionally, heartburn and pain under the right ribs I can't help but notice that the pain I have isn't crippling like other people describe and I only vomited once so far in months. It also doesn't seem to be triggered by food only, sometimes sitting funny or just randomly it kicks in. Is it likely to be gallstones still? The ultrasound is NHS so looong waiting time

  1. Best to wait & see what the results are. Meantime, if you're worried by any other adverse effects, see your GP ASAP.

  2. Yes, depending on the size of the stones, they can completely or partly block the gallbladder, thus giving some people symptoms different than yours. Try avoiding spicy and greasy foods while you get your test results.

  3. It sounds like gallstones

My mum had the same signs as you and she later found out that she had a gallstone near to her gall bladder.

  4. Cholecystitus is inflamation of the Gall bladder so it does look like gallstones may be the problem.

  5. I had gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed.  The symptoms you have described are very similar to the ones I had.  But the only way to really determine what is the problem is through ultrasound.  I don't understand why you have to wait for the results so long.  I had answer in like 10 minutes.
