Is it good/bad etiquitte to return a missed call?

Question

I am the owner of a Sole Proprietorship, doing business as a Legal Document Assistant.

I know that in some professions this is expected but considering my profession should I?

I am using my cell phone as my business phone and there are occasions when I miss a call.

I am new all & any business (as it always should) is needed, does this look desperate? I figure if it had been important enough they would have left a message right? My problem is that it's important to me.

It is  bad etiquette NOT to answer the phone call.

Do you want your business to work?

Then you have to do some work, and return their call.

I think it is completely appropriate to dial back a missed call and say you see that you missed a call and wanted to get back to them. No problem there. Keep it polite, courteous and friendly. Some will really appreciate your seeking them out.

I wouldn't call them back, then again I don't have any work ethic at all.

I think you should return calls, it makes it seem like you care more.

If I'm in need of a business' services, then I'm not going to leave a message, ever. I'm going to go to the next phone number in the phone book.

Even if they do considerate it to be desperate, you're increasing your chances of making a sale or whatever it is that you do.

Regardless of one's industry, missed calls should always be returned. It could be a fantastic opportunity that passed you by, and you would never even know. Doing all you can to grow your business/practice is not desperation, it is essential. Your pro-active action will certainly impress your potential clients, not offend them.

Yes by all means return the calls, especially for business purposes. The bad etiquette applies to the person not leaving the message, but such is our society.
